Meet your wedding florist
And her pooch, Maggie
Natalie is the founder of Autumn Weekends and the creative behind the flowers.
The seed was planted for this passion project amid the Covid-19 lockdown (anyone else entirely revaluate their life during this strange time?) fast forward a few years and a formal qualification later, what was once a passion started to take shape into a small business.
You might be thinking ‘If Autumn Weekends started during Covid, what were you doing before?’. Great question. Nat is a Cardiac Sonographer and still spends a few days in the industry each week. As much as she loves floristry she also really loves looking at peoples heart too. While it might seem a bit strange as both fields are so different, it just seems to pair so perfectly. From hearts to flowers, life is pretty damn interesting.
Whimsical, dreamy designs with a classic feel yet modern twist.
After spending hours upon hours playing with a variety of flowers, Nat started to develop her own style. Think whimsical, dreamy designs with a classic feel yet modern twist. She likes to be guided by the colour palette and what flowers are in season. This means she is always creating with different products which keeps her work interesting and ever-evolving. Because like you, we yawn when we see the same design over and over.
There is something so heart warming and special about creating the flowers for a wedding. It brings so much joy to be the florist that gets to celebrate and represent the couple in the form of flowers. From the early stages of planning to bringing it all together on the day, it truly is an honour to work for our beautiful couples on their very special day.
We have the privilege of working with some truly remarkable flowers and foliage. A lot of love and effort goes into growing every one of these beauties and so we place a huge emphasis on sustainable practices (read more about our sustainability mission below). We hand pick all of our flowers from the Sydney Flower Market guided by the colour palette and the overall vibe of the wedding. This allows us to chose the best quality flowers available on the day and also ensures no two weddings are the same.
If you are looking for a florist that thinks outside the box and considers every minute detail, then you my friend, have found the right person for your wedding. Reach out via the form on the contact page and hopefully we can create some floral magic for your special day.
Sustainability mission
Sustainability means a whole lot of things and it varies depending on who you are talking to. Unfortunately in the flower world, greenwashing is prolific. Being transparent about what I do to be as sustainable as I can in my business is high on my priority list.
At Autumn Weekends we strive to use Australian grown flowers. There are so many reasons for this but for ease, it supports our Aussie farmers and reduces carbon emissions. The added benefit of using flowers that are in season means you are getting the freshest, best quality product. Of course this is not always possible but if that is the case, I will be transparent with you about where your blooms are coming from. It is important to note that Orchids and tropical flowers/foliage generally are imported products.
We don’t use floral foam, like ever! Floral foam is a micro plastic that ends up in land fill, green waste and in our water ways. All of our designs are created with mechanics that are either reusable or don’t cost the planet.
All packaging and branding material is recyclable and made from non toxic products. This includes our candles which are sourced from an Aussie business. Speaking of Aussie businesses, we like to support them as much as we can and opt to use as many of them as we can in all of our processes.
Working in a sustainable fashion means that we need to be flexible when it comes to flower varieties and so we work guided by the colour palette. When you put your trust in Autumn Weekends to use our creative brains, the true flower magic comes to life.
